About Prete Design
Our roots were planted way back in 1997 when the internet was this new, new, thing to everyone. At the time, our current CEO, janitor, and receptionist, Ed was working for an engineering company in Melville, NY as their Art Director. This mainly consisted of manually pasting plots and diagrams to Letraset poster board in preparation for the companies monthly trade shows. The combination of the boredom from the job, coupled with the fumes from the glue, resulted in Ed geniously asking for the company to buy him Macromedia Dreamweaver and an animation program called Flash. This of course had nothing to do with glue, nor poster boards, but helped to pass some of the time Ed would sit at his 3rd floor desk watching the patrons enter and exit the pizzeria next door. While people were still routinely doing paste ups and mechanicals, Ed was writing DHTML, before he even understood what it was.
A short time thereafter a friend of Ed approached him about starting a web company together. Together, Tom and Ed started Diesel Ink. (nothing to do with the cutting edge clothing company today’s youth wears). Their first and last client was a surf shop in Long Beach, NY called Unsound Surf. At the time, Ed wanted to get them set up selling gear online as Ed had the forsight that this was going to be the way to make money and connections. The online store never materialized for some reason or another (likely due to lack of budget or something) but the small surfing site flourished.
Eventually, Ed left his digs on Broadhollow Road and bounced around with a few different companies on Long Island and New York City over the next several years doing various graphic design and web related jobs. All while these bill paying jobs continued, Ed continued to promote his own business, providing the foundation for what is now Prete Design. Over time, Ed has been able to focus and devote more time to his growing client base also focusing on the here and now technologies.
His ability to understand a businesses problems, allows him to shape and develop a solution that addresses their needs. His no no nonsense approach provides a solid foundation on which to build allowing their sites to flourish. Prete Design is not a site development company that churns out cookie cutter sites all in an effort to maximize revenue. Every client is treated as if they were family, being given honest practical advice that will provide a custom solution to their unique problem.
We, just like the web, have come a long way in the last ten years, hopefully you’ll be with us the next ten.
